Children’s RE (religious education) lessons are held in the Friendship Crew room of the coffee house, the building closest to U.S. 1. These lessons, which come from the Tapestry of Faith curriculum available on the UUA website, are aimed at children ages 5 – 12 (kindergarten through sixth grade) and focus on such UU principles as love and acceptance of all, fairness in dealings with others, concern for one another and for the environment, and a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. Each lesson begins with the words, “We are Unitarian Universalists, with minds that think, hearts that love, and hands that are ready to serve. Together we care for our Earth and work for friendship and peace in our world.” A teen assistant is available to provide child care for those too young for structured learning.
Children begin each Sunday morning at Friendship Hall with their parents where they are present for the first few minutes of the adult service. After the chalice lighting, the children come forward for a Story for All Ages and then are “sung off” to Sunday school by the congregation. Parents should pick up their children from the Friendship Crew room by 12:00 p.m.
The Friendship Crew is captained by Kim Kroflich.
All young crew members are welcome to join and sail off on exciting adventures!
